Who this is for
Biology has a reputation as the easy science, which is exactly why it catches students out. The concepts are approachable, so students feel fine in class, then meet an exam that asks them to hold hundreds of specific terms and a dozen multi-step processes in working memory. The gap between "I understood the lesson" and "I can reproduce this under pressure" is wider here than in any other science.
We work with high school students in their first and second biology courses, students preparing for cumulative finals, and university students facing the volume and pace of first-year cell biology and physiology.

Where students commonly struggle
The first sticking point is volume. Without a system, students try to memorise everything with equal weight and run out of capacity. We build hierarchies — what is a big idea, what is an example, what is a detail — so studying becomes selective rather than exhaustive.
The second is process questions. Respiration, photosynthesis and protein synthesis are sequences with locations, inputs, outputs and regulation, and exams love asking about one step in isolation. We drill these as flow diagrams the student redraws from memory.
The third is terminology. Biology uses precise words, and marks are routinely lost for saying something close to right. We work on answering with the exact language the mark scheme expects.
How sessions work
Sessions are one-on-one and follow the student's current unit, with a personalized study plan behind them. We favour active recall: the student explains a process back to us, draws the diagram, or answers past questions cold, and we correct in real time. We track which topics have gone in and which keep slipping, and we revisit the slippery ones on a schedule rather than leaving them to exam week.
In person and online
We meet in person across Metro Vancouver and online anywhere in the world over Zoom. Online sessions use a shared whiteboard for labelled diagrams, and students keep everything drawn during the session as revision material. Scheduling is flexible across time zones.

$49.50/hour with a weekly commitment

Good to know
- The 10% weekly commitment rate applies to two or more sessions per week per student, on a standing weekly schedule with a four-week minimum.
- Online sessions have no travel fee and are available worldwide.
- Referral credit: one complimentary hour when a referred student completes their first session.
Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations made 24 hours or more before a session are never charged.
- Same-day cancellations are charged at 50% of the session rate.
- If your tutor needs to cancel, there is no charge to you.
