The BC curriculum connection

British Columbia certifies offshore schools in twelve countries, Bermuda among them. Students at those schools take BC courses, are assessed against BC learning standards, and graduate with the same Dogwood Diploma as a student finishing Grade 12 in Burnaby.

That makes the tutoring question unusually simple. We are a Burnaby-based service and BC courses are our week-to-week work. When a Bermuda student sends a unit outline, we already know what's in it, which parts tend to unravel, and what a full-mark answer looks like as opposed to a merely correct one. Nothing needs translating.

The specific advantage online tutoring has in Bermuda is about supply rather than curriculum. On a small island, the number of people who can teach senior chemistry, physics or calculus one-on-one — and who happen to be free at the hour your child is free — is finite, and it thins out further the more senior the course gets. How online sessions work

Sessions run over Zoom, where our tutors use an interactive whiteboard. Derivations, annotated diagrams, essay plans and worked examples accumulate through the hour and are sent to the student afterwards, becoming a revision set written in the language of their own course.

Before the first session we ask for the course outline, recent assessments and any upcoming assignment briefs so we can plan around the school's sequence rather than alongside it. Progress is tracked topic by topic and reported to parents in plain language. All a student needs is a computer with a stable internet connection and a quiet space.

We work with families across different time zones and will find a time that suits your student's schedule. Times are arranged individually with each family.
